Peru Section of The Combustion Institute
Welcome to the Peru Section of The Combustion Institute
We are the Peru Section of The Combustion Institute (PSCI), a chapter of The Combustion Institute (CI), dedicated to advancing the science and technology of combustion through research, education, and collaboration within our community.

Our Mission Statement
Join Our Community Today
Our organization fosters research, innovation and knowledge sharing in combustion science and technology, promoting sustainable practices and supporting researchers and professionals in the field through various initiatives and events.
Chair’s Welcome
With growing awareness of raising global temperatures caused by climate change, many countries are investing in new technologies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. One of the main challenges facing countries such as Peru is to meet these targets seeking to keep the average global temperature increase below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels. Addressing this challenge requires continued progress in zero-carbon energy and a well-managed energy transition, both of which depend on sustained and focused research in combustion science in Peru.
The Peru Section of The Combustion Institute (PSCI) plays an important role by connecting Peruvian researchers with a global community engaged in cutting-edge research and technological development. This is true because it serves as a key driver for expanding scientific collaboration across the region and beyond. Moreover, it allows the Peruvian scientific community to further integrate with worldwide collaboration networks, facilitating the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and expertise. This interaction undoubtedly contributes to gaining visibility to the combustion research-related work developed in our country, increasing combustion research in South America, and addressing global challenges such as those related to combustion, sustainability, and climate change.
Today, more than 80% of the energy consumed worldwide comes from combustion processes. This means that combustion is fundamental to our daily activities and will continue to be so in a low-carbon economy. Given the inherently interdisciplinary nature of combustion, the PSCI welcomes researchers, professionals, and students from diverse backgrounds to join this collective effort and contribute to practical solutions for real-world energy and environmental challenges.

History of the PSCI
The history leading to the establishment of the Peru Section of The Combustion Institute (PSCI) dates back to the beginning of this century. During that period, many Peruvian scientists now active in combustion research began participating at The Combustion Institute (CI) Winter Schools organized by the Brazilian section of the CI. This engagement continued steadily over the years, more recently, has extended to events organized by other CI sections such as the Chilean one. As a result of participation in these events, there are currently on-going research collaborations of Peruvian researchers with members of other CI sections.
Today, combustion science and technology in Peru are supported by a diverse range of organizations, including universities, research centers, and public and private enterprises. Within these organizations, professionals and students are actively engaged in combustion-related research, contributing regularly to international journals and conferences and participating in scientific events organized by the global combustion community.
Recognizing the need for a formal organization to bring together this growing Peruvian combustion community, discussions to establish a national section of The Combustion Institute began in 2023. These efforts culminated in the submission of an Application for New Section Recognition in 2024. In April 2025, The Combustion Institute officially recognized the Peru Section of The Combustion Institute (PSCI), marking an important milestone for the combustion community in Peru.
